How to Find Comfort During Times of Grief

Grieving is a deeply personal journey, one that involves navigating through various stages of sorrow, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. While there's no one-size-fits-all way to process grief, certain tools can ease the emotional burden.

Among these, essential oils have been found to offer considerable support, thanks to their ability to influence the limbic system, the part of the brain that governs emotions.

Essential Oils for Grief:

- Bergamot: Known for its uplifting and soothing properties, bergamot can be a beacon of light during dark times. Its citrusy fragrance is believed to help alleviate sadness and evoke feelings of joy and energy.

- White Angelica: This blend is crafted to promote feelings of protection and security. Grieving can often leave one feeling vulnerable, and White Angelica helps create a sense of strength and comfort.

-Neroli: Extracted from the blossoms of the bitter orange tree, neroli is prized for its calming effects. It's particularly useful for those moments when anxiety and sorrow feel overwhelming, promoting peace and easing troubled hearts.

-Joy: As its name suggests, this blend aims to bring back the light into life, helping to rediscover happiness and beloved memories amidst the shadows of loss.

Each of these essential oils can be used in various ways, such as through diffusing, applying topically (when diluted with a vegetable oil), or simply inhaling directly from the bottle. It's important though, to listen to your body and use these oils in a way that best supports your healing process.

Complementary Activities for Grief Relief:

-Meditation: Meditation can serve as a powerful tool for cultivating inner peace and presence. It allows for a gentle space to observe and accept your feelings without judgment, aiding in the healing journey.

-Yoga: Combining physical movement with breath work, yoga offers a holistic approach to coping with grief. Certain poses and flows are designed to release emotional tension and foster emotional equilibrium.

-Journaling: Writing down your thoughts and feelings can be incredibly therapeutic. It offers a private outlet for your emotions, serving as a reflection of your internal state and a record of your healing progress.

-Spending Time in Nature: Nature has its own way of soothing the soul. Whether it's a walk in the park, sitting by a lake, or simply basking in the sun, being in the natural world can help bring a sense of calm and grounding.

-Connecting with Supportive Individuals: Surrounding yourself with supportive friends, family, or joining a support group can make a significant difference. Sharing your experience and listening to others can help you feel less isolated in your grief.

Grief is a deeply personal and individual experience. Integrating essential oils and engaging in supportive activities can offer comfort and facilitate the path towards healing. However, it's essential to remember that letting yourself feel, acknowledging your pain, and giving yourself time to heal are all critical components of navigating through grief.

I lost my father in July 2019. It was very hard. I had lost loved ones but the grief of losing my dad was beyond anything I had experienced before. I found a lot of comfort in guided meditation specifically for grief. I also attended a YL conference in Brussels with Sandi - the oils that I learned to use were amazing. White Angelica really helped. I also needed to cry a lot and Release and Inner Child helped in that process. I guess you never completely heal but the pain attenuates and you reach a platform of acceptance.

  2. My grieving process was equally different from everyone else's. It is a lonely process regardless of the number of people who welcome and support us. A lonely and inconstant process, which almost drives us crazy. One moment it seems like we have overcome it, and the second after we just want to close our eyes and never wake up. In these moments of near madness we look for anything for relief. There are those who turn to alcohol, drugs and addictive behaviors. It was in white angelica EO that I found relief from the feelings that tormented me. It's still my go-to when everyday stress or anxiety bothers me. I put a drop in my hand and rub my hands together, then i put them over my nose, and take three deep breaths. Breathing and meditation are also an important part of my process. Then, I pass my hands over my head, shoulders, arms and legs, spreading the remaining white angelica. and the relief is immediate.

Stay strong. Look for support. You can survive grief
